Whereas Internet penetration in Africa has grown from 11% to 28.6% in just 5  years despite challenges such as cyber security, it is lower when compared to the rest of the world. Measurable parameters such IP address allocations show that the continent is quite behind. In April 2017, AFRINIC entered the depletion phase of fourth version of IP Addresses (IPv4) way behind of the other four continental regional Internet registries who are already distributing the newest version IPv6 in earnest. Please read the event concept note at http://bit.ly/2uylwiv.

AFRINIC is the Regional Internet Registry for Africa headquartered in Ebene, Mauritius. It is responsible for the distribution and management of Internet number resources (IP address space and Autonomous System Numbers) in Africa and the Indian Ocean region. AFRINIC ensures equitable and efficient distribution of Internet number resources to the African Internet community to support Internet technology usage and development across the continent. According to the Event Managers, Ushers and Models, the idea of the Culture Games was conceived in 2007 in Benin City, Edo State and started gathering speed in 2010. The even planner are happy to say it will take off in 2018 officially.

Cultural and linguistic diversity, while stimulating respect for cultural identity, traditions and religions, is essential to the development of an Information Society based on the dialogue among cultures and regional and international cooperation. It is an important factor for sustainable development.

Based on the above, Akinbo A. A. Cornerstone and partners launched the Culture Games to span a planning space of three (3) years to commence in 2018. At a Press briefing, the convener shared that the adopted approach is in stages to help advance economic and socio-political growth and development in Africa. This will ensure that the public is informed, oriented and educated. it also announced the change of its logo and theme to Connecting Cultures.

With the use of the internet and its span of network, the games would progress to fairs, workshops, seminars and festivals with other key organisations across the globe.
